Police Identify Suspect Accused Of Stealing CMS Property

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools Police Department has arrested a man who they say broke into various storage units on school properties.

Timothy R. Hughes has been charged with Felony Larceny After Burglary and Possession Of Firearm By Convicted Felon. He was arrested at his Charlotte home Wednesday morning by CMS police detectives.

Since April 1st, CMS-PD has reported incidents from eight CMS campuses, with the most recent break-in occurring on May 31st.

The eight campuses include:

  • Reedy Creek Elementary
  • Northridge Middle School
  • Olde Providence Elementary
  • Collinswood Language Academy
  • Briarwood Elementary
  • Dorothy J. Vaughan Academy of Technology
  • JM Alexander Middle School
  • Beverly Woods Elementary

Hughes stole over $8,000 worth of custodial equipment during the past two months. Items stolen range from expensive machinery and pressure washers to bulk cases of garbage bags and other cleaning supplies.

This case is still under investigation and additional charges are possible.
