CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Officials have identified the two people killed in a wreck at the intersection of West W.T. Harris Boulevard and the I-485 off ramp in north Charlotte.
The accident was reported shortly after 9am near Northlake Mall.Β Police say a 2015 Volvo tractor trailer was coming through the intersection on a green light when a 2005 Nissan Murano came speeding up the I-485 off ramp and failed to stop for their red light. The Murano hit the side of the trailer, and became wedged underneath.
The driver, Anoulame J. Thayorath, 36, and the passenger, Amber Nicole Edwards, 29, inside the Murano were both pronounced dead on the scene.
Investigators say excessive speed and failure to stop for a steady red light on the part ofΒ Thayorath contributed to the accident.
The investigation is ongoing.
