UPDATE
NEWTON, N.C. — Investigators of the Catawba County Sheriff Department have since arrested a man suspected of assaulting his girlfriend and holding her captive. Officials arrested James Shook on June 11, 2018 after finding him at a Circle K gas station off of Highway 70 in Newton, NC.
His charges include “larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of motor vehicle, flee, elude arrest with motor vehicle, failure to appear for assault with deadly weapon, failure to appear for injury to personal property, and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury,” according to the Catawba County Office of Sheriff.
Shook is being detained at Catawba County Jail, where he was given a $25,000 secured bond for a majority of his charges. He was refused bond for the charge “assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.”
He is expected to appear in court today, June 12th.

NEWTON, N.C. — Investigators are searching for a man accused of assaulting his girlfriend over a course of several days.
Police were called to Love’s Travel Stop on Southfork Drive on June 5th in reference to a woman in distress.
Upon arrival, officers say the woman told them she ran to the store after escaping from her abusive boyfriend, Jason Shook. The woman said Shook assaulted her and held her against her will inside a home on Viewpoint Road for three days. The victim was treated at a local hospital for her injuries.
Officers went to the home on Viewpoint Road but Shook was nowhere to be found.
Shook has an outstanding warrant for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injuries. The investigation is ongoing and more charges are possible.
