Equipment Failure Leaves Thousands Without Power In East Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC — “Equipment failure” left thousands of people without power in east Charlotte Thursday afternoon.

Duke Energy officials have not yet said why the equipment malfunctioned at a substation in the Hickory Grove area, but crews are working to make necessary repairs.

Roughly 5,000 people were initially impacted when the incident happened around 4:30pm.

Crews have restored power to most of the people impacted. Drivers are advised to still use caution in the area in case any traffic lights are still malfunctioning from the outage.
