Sex Offender Pleads Guilty After Being Caught At Local Library And Playground

ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — Officials say a convicted sex offender will spend at least 17 years in prison for failing to register as a sex offender, being on a restricted premise and being a habitual felon.

Jeremy Leatherman, 27, of Burke County pleaded guilty after being arrested for visiting the Alexander County Library and a playground at a McDonalds.  It is illegal for sex offenders to be in locations where children are present.

He is also accused of babysitting children while being a registered sex offender.  Leatherman was sentenced to 207-273 months in prison.
