"N Charlotte Toyota tips"Summer is here! Now that the kids are out of school it’s the perfect time to hit the road and take that summer vacation you’ve been talking about. Road trips are easy and affordable, and they’re a great way to see the sights. However, packing a car can be one of the most stressful aspects of the entire getaway! Toyota of N Charlotte is here with 5 tips on packing to ensure the start to your trip is easy and efficient… that way you can hit the highway and get to the fun part.

Toyota of N Charlotte has tips for your summer road trip

Tip #1: Plan how you’re going to pack.

How are you going to get all of your gear to your final destination? Are you going to rely on your trunk or cargo hold, or are you going to use roof racks or even a tow? If you’re going to use roof racks or tow behind you, make sure you choose the racks/towing gear that are compatible with your car and be sure to check weight limits in your owner’s manual to see how much weight your car can handle. You should also check to ensure everything is installed properly when packing a car before you load up and hit the road.

Tip #2: Pack a grab bag.

What do you need with you when you’re out on the road? Toyota of N Charlotte recommends packing a “grab bag” with things like chargers, snacks, medication, maps, books, and anything else you’re going to use to stay entertained while out on the road. Be sure to keep it near you in the car; this way you won’t have to dig through your luggage to find what you need.

Tip #3: Pack an overnight bag.

If you’re going to be stopping overnight on your trip, consider packing a separate overnight bag with toiletries, clothes, and any other necessities. You can grab this bag and take it inside with you instead of taking all of your heavy luggage in and then having to repack the car in the morning.

Tip #4: Put everything heavy on the bottom, near the middle.

When packing a car, make sure all heavy items are on the bottom of the pile and put them toward the center of the car to keep weight evenly distributed. Don’t put heavy items in the roof racks, as this can cause your car to more easily overturn in the case of an accident.

Tip #5: Make sure you can still see!

Can you still see out of the back of your car when you’re all packed up? How about blind spots – can you check them? Make sure you have full visibility, as tempting as it is to use every last inch of space.
