Man Seriously Injured After Jet Ski Explodes On Lake Norman

MOORESVILLE, NC — A man was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon when his jet ski exploded on Lake Norman.

Officers with NC Wildlife told our crew on scene the man was trying to crank the jet ski beside his dock when it exploded shortly before 5:30pm. The 59-year-old man was wearing a life jacket, and was pulled from the water by his son.

Officials say he was taken to Lake Norman Regional with “very serious” injuries and then airlifted to CMC.

NC Wildlife is investigating the incident to determine whether the explosion was caused by a fuel leak or build up of fumes.
