Mecklenburg County Passes FY19 Budget That Includes Tax Increase

CHARLOTTE, NC — For the first time in five years, property taxes are going up for Mecklenburg County homeowners.

Commissioners approved the county’s $1.7 billion budget Tuesday night, which includes a tax hike of three-quarters of a penny.

That means the owner of a $250,000 dollar home will pay $18.75 more per year. The increase will raise nearly $10 million to help fund early childhood education.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will get $31 million more than last year.

The budget also gives CMS $6.8 million to pay for a one-time 7% increase to teacher salaries.
