ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A murder suspect is in custody after an overnight shooting in Salisbury left one person dead.
At about 2 a.m. on Sunday, Deputies with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a shooting at a residence located in the 1400 block of Long Street in Salisbury.
Arriving Deputies located 25-year-old Mirah Turner suffering from a gunshot wound and began rendering aid. EMS arrived but Ms. Turner died from her injuries at the scene.
Detectives say Ms. Turner was in the residence with her mother when unknown suspects arrived and attempted to force their way into the home.
Investigators say Ms. Turner attempted to secure the door of the residence when a suspect fired shots into the house, striking Ms. Turner.
During the course of this investigation, 25 year old Witt Darnell Alexander Jr., of Salisbury was identified as a suspect in the case. Alexander was taken into custody by Rowan County Sheriff’s Detectives at 807 South Caldwell Street in Salisbury on Sunday morning.
