Charlotte Independence Tie On The Road Versus Richmond

RICHMOND, V.A. — United Soccer League professional team Charlotte Independence pocketed another point for Saturday’s away game resulting in a 1 to 1 draw against the Richmond Kickers. The Independence secured the tie in the first half when Cordell Cato scored off of a long-range assist from Kay Voser.

The Kickers saw an early lead as a snap header off of forward Brian Shriver escaped Independence defense in the 6th minute. Yet, the Independence saw their chance to equalize in the 20th minute, when Kay Voser passed to Cordell Cato from far beyond midfield. Cato scored his seventh goal of the season, securing his spot as leading scorer on the Independence and tied-for-fourth most scorer in the league this season. The score remained tied throughout the remainder of the game.

The Independence have tied or won seven out of their eight most recent games, taking away at least a point in each. The Independence is scheduled to play the Tampa Bay Rowdies at home on Wednesday, June 27th at the Matthews Sportsplex. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 PM EST.
