Mooresville Man Charged With Stealing From A Local Church

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office have arrested and charged Newton Marcell Brown Jr. for stealing property from the Laura Memorial Church of God on Friday, May 25th.

The church filed a report that an Aries riding lawn mower had been stolen from a storage shed on their property, located at 2173 Charlotte Highway in Mooresville.

Detectives spoke to pastors and neighbors of the church to investigate the theft. Multiple accounts spoke of the church allowing Brown to stay at the fellowship hall within the church in the past, giving him knowledge of where the lawn mower was stored.

Citizens in the area told police that Brown had sold the lawn mower to a local family who was unaware that the equipment had been stolen from the church prior to their ownership of it. The lawn mower was then located and returned to the church by detectives, with the help of the family.

Brown has been charged with “Felony Breaking and Entering and Felony Larceny after Breaking and Entering, and Felony Obtaining Property by False Pretense,” according to the Iredell County Sheriff’s office. Officials arrested Brown on Friday, June 15th, and he was issued a $10,000 secured bond.
