Supreme Court Declines To Review Rowan County Commissioners’ Prayer Ruling

The Latest:

The United States Supreme Court is declining to review Rowan County commissioners’ prayer practice.  The High Court announced Thursday that they will not review a ruling that found the county commissioners of Rowan County in violation of the Constitution by holding public prayers before their meetings.

The ACLU says the decision means that a lower court ruling striking down the practice will stand, with Rowan County having exhausted all possible appeals.

Original Story:

ROWAN COUNTY, NC — County commissioners will continue fighting to open their meetings with a prayer.

They voted 5-0 Monday night to send the prayer battled to the Supreme Court. In July, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court’s ruling that said the commissioners violated the constitution by asking the public to join in Christian prayers.

This could ultimately settle prayer cases nationwide.
