FBU Top Gun Showcase Returns To York County
YORK COUNTY, S.C. — The Football University (FBU) Top Gun Showcase returns to South Pointe High School for its annual national showcase event on July 8-14, 2018.
FBU Top Gun is considered the largest national showcase event in the U.S., and features some of the best middle and high school student athletes from across the country. The High School Showcase will take place July 8-10, and the Middle School Showcase July 12-14. The Specialists Showcase will be held on July 11-12 featuring Rubio Long Snapping and Chris Sailor Kicking.
The FBU Top Gun Showcase returns to Rock Hill, SC, also known as Football City USA for its third consecutive year bringing in approximately 1,200 of the top student-athletes from across the country. The showcase pairs the student athletes with coaches and players with more than 500 combining years of NFL experience. Around 23 local players at the middle and high school levels are representing Rock Hill/York County this year.
“Visit York County is proud to be the home of the FBU Top Gun Showcase for the third consecutive year,” says Andy Clinton, VP of Sales for Visit York County, SC. “The strong partnership between Visit York County, Rock Hill Schools, South Pointe High School and the City of Rock Hill has led to the overwhelming success that keeps FBU Top Gun coming back each year.”
More than half of last year’s FBU Freshman All-American Bowl athletes were invited from Top Gun, and underclassmen are invited to the National Combine at the All-American Bowl each year at the Top Gun High School Showcase at South Pointe. Last year’s state champion South Pointe Stallions featured two U.S. Army All-American Bowl players – kicker BT Potter and athlete Derion Kendrick, both now at Clemson University. South Pointe High School’s head coach Strait Herron was also named national coach of the year.
“We’re thrilled to be back in Football City USA for a third consecutive year,” says Steve Quinn, VP of Player Development at Football University. “South Pointe High School continues to be an excellent venue for our event, and Rock Hill and surrounding York County is a fantastic host for Football University student-athletes and their families.”
From seminars to field work to film room tape review, the student-athletes attending the Football University Top Gun Showcase will be exposed to so many opportunities. Representatives from 247Sports and the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee will be scouting top performers at both the high school and middle school Top Gun Showcases.
Family members of the Top Gun athletes will be able to join in on the fun as well with the Young Guns Workout. The Young Guns Workout is designed to entertain the siblings and other family members of the Top Gun athletes between the ages of 5-12 with interactive play, drills and exercises to encourage fitness and more. Athletes and their families are welcome to explore York County, SC while they are here for the two-event, multi-day national football showcase. Visit York County has partnered with area attractions to provide discounted access to many attractions in the area.
