Morganton Men Charged With Trying To Break Into New Home
MORGANTON, NC — Burke County deputies have charged two suspects accused of trying to break into a newly constructed home Wednesday evening.
Officials say Preston Collingwood and Samuel Keller, both 20, were caught trying to break into a home on West Bluewater Drive around 6:48pm. A resident reported two shirtless suspects outside the home trying to cover the security camera lenses.
A responding deputy caught Collingwood and Keller while on the back patio, officials say, and ordered the suspects to lay down on the ground.
Collingwood obeyed the command, but deputies say Keller initially tried to run. Keller was carrying a trash bag and quickly stopped to lay down in the yard. Officials say the bag contained a lockbox for the house with keys inside.
Keller and Collingwood have each been charged with Attempted Breaking and Entering, Misdemeanor Larceny, and Receiving Stolen Goods/Property.
