What Should David Tepper Do First?
It’s official.
Billionaire David Tepper’s purchase of the Carolina Panthers is final.
The Panthers shared video of Tepper checking out the front offices on Monday.
Tepper issued a statement:
“I am thrilled to begin this new era of Carolina Panthers football and am humbled by the overwhelming excitement and support for the team.
On behalf of the fans and myself, I thank Jerry Richardson for bringing the team to the Carolinas and for entrusting me with its future.
Winning is the most important thing both on and off the field and in the community, and I am committed to winning a Super Bowl championship together.
I look forward to being part of the Panthers’ family and to supporting this flourishing region.”
Tepper will now need to find someone new to run the team’s day to day operations.
Chief operating officer Tina Becker announced her resignation minutes after the sale was completed.
Becker took over the role December, after the NFL began investigating former owner Jerry Richardson.
Finding Becker’s replacement isn’t the only think on Tepper’s to do list.
The team still doesn’t have a president after Danny Morrison resigned in the spring last year.
Tepper could make personnel announcements at his first press conference as team owner on Tuesday.
But there are still some looming questions, like the what will be the fate of the 13-foot statue of Jerry Richardson that greets fans outside Bank of America Stadium.
