YORK, SC — A deputy with the York County Sheriff’s Office was fired in January for engaging in “conduct unbecoming of an officer.” Sheriff Kevin Tolson says Deputy Christopher Gage was been terminated effective January 10, 2018 after allegedly taking part in criminal activities.
According to a release, an investigation began after someone made a complaint to the YCSO on January 8th. The allegations against Gage included taking part in an extramarital affair and providing money in exchange for sexual favors while on duty, and refusing to serve an outstanding arrest warrant.
Sheriff Tolson says he fired Gage two days after receiving the allegations due to their serious nature.
“I take all allegations of officer misconduct very seriously. As soon as a complaint was received, we immediately interviewed the complainant. I fired Gage as soon as certain statements made during the interview were corroborated,” says Sheriff Tolson.
SLED conducted the investigation into Gage’s actions, and on Tuesday, investigators obtained a warrant for misconduct in office. Gage was taken into custody a short time later.
Tolson says, “Gage’s conduct is reprehensible and will not be tolerated this in this office. This former employee’s behavior is not a reflection of the good work of other YCSO deputies.”
Gage had been with the York County Sheriff’s Office since March 2017.
