ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A Rowan County Sheriff’s Office Detention Officer has been arrested and charged with smuggling drugs into the jail.
Authorities say on at least five occasions, Raymond Heath Moore, 32, smuggled marijuana, cigarettes and lighters into the Rowan County Detention Center and provided it to four inmates for a preset fee.
Investigators began investigating Moore in June of 2018 and the investigation included reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing inmates.
On July 11th, 2018, at about 8:30 p.m., detectives executed a search warrant at the detention center and searched Moore, his car, and his residence in the 200 block of Correll Street in Landis, North Carolina.
The search revealed evidence which supported the suspicion that he was smuggling contraband into the facility.
Moore, who was hired in February of 2018, was immediately terminated. He is charged with Conspiracy to Deliver Marijuana, Delivery of Marijuana, Possession With Intent to Deliver Marijuana, and Providing Marijuana at the Rowan County Detention Center. His bond was set at $40,000 and Moore was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center.
The case is still under investigation and additional charges could be brought against Moore and other suspects.
