A Tuesday Vote Could Help Gastonia Taxi Services Compete With Ride Share Companies
GASTONIA, NC — Taxis in Gastonia could soon get a break from regulations, which would help them compete more with ride share companies.
Gastonia City Council will vote on whether to end some local regulations. Cab companies would be allowed to use a third party background check service to avoid going through the state fingerprinting process.
The new ordinance would also get rid of the rule that cab companies must have a brick and mortar location.
The public safety committee has recommended that council vote to allow the changes.
Gastonia City Council will vote Tuesday night at six.
