STANLEY, N.C. — A Gaston County woman faces felony charges of child abuse and neglect, after her 8-month-old child needed to be hospitalized for a week in Charlotte to recover from serious bodily injuries.
The Stanley County Police Department issued a warrant for the arrest of Keyeira Harrison, 30, after hospital staff suspected the child’s injuries were the product of intentional physical abuse and parental ignorance.
Harrison’s son was admitted to Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, where medical tests revealed bleeding within his brain and bilateral retinal hemorrhaging.
The infant was also experiencing the effects of severe malnutrition, after being fed “a combination of 1% cow’s milk and 6 ounces of water,” rather than baby formula.
Police arrested Harrison on the charges on July 11th. So far, the Stanley County Police Department has not released further information regarding the case.
