STATESVILLE, NC — An off-duty Iredell County deputy was killed Wednesday afternoon when he collided with another deputy’s vehicle.
Officials say Corporal Bill Wood was off-duty and riding his motorcycle on Taylorsville Highway near Tarlton Road when he collided with Deputy Justin Betts. Officials say Betts was on-duty and turning left into a parking lot when the accident occurred.
Corporal Wood was pronounced dead on the scene. Wood had been with Iredell County Emergency Communications since 1993 and transferred to the Sheriff’s Office in 2007.
Deputy Betts has been placed on administrative leave pending results of the ongoing investigation.
