CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man has been charged after police say he robbed two banks in Charlotte on Monday.
The suspect who robbed a State Employees Credit Union and Bank Of America has been identified as 30-year-old Kyle Kornegay.
Around 10:15 a.m., police with the Charlotte Mecklenburg police responded to the State Employees Credit Union, 8605 University City Blvd, where Kornegay handed an employee a note demanding money. The teller complied and Kornegay exited the business with stolen money.
Around 2:45 p.m., Kornegay entered the Bank of America, 2249 Beatties Ford Road, and passed a note to a teller, demanding she give him money. When the teller called another employee over to her, Kornegay fled the business with nothing in hand.
A short time after the Bank of America attempted robbery occurred, a Metro Division patrol officer located Kornegay’s car and conducted a traffic stop. Both occupants inside of the car were detained without incident.
Kornegay has been charged with Attempted Common Law Robbery for the Bank of America case and Common Law Robbery for the incident that occurred at the State Employees Credit Union.
The driver of the car was not involved in either robbery, however, he was arrested for having an unrelated warrant for larceny.
