Salisbury Police Hope To Deter Would-Be Criminals With Steady Blue Lights

SALISBURY, NC — Police are hoping the use of steady blue lights while out on patrol will help deter would-be criminals.

In Connecticut, officials tested the strategy as part of a random control trial and saw success in reducing vehicle break-ins. After seeing an increase in car break-ins involving unlocked vehicles throughout the city, police in Salisbury are hoping achieve the same success.

“The steady blue lights are a great way to signal to our community that we are patrolling and all is safe. It also signals to would-be criminals that the Salisbury community stands together against crime and social disorder” stated, Captain Melonie Thompson.

“Steady blue lights are not the same as flashing blue lights which are a universal signal for police interactions, such as a traffic stop.”
