Part Of I-77 NB Shutdown After One Shot In North Charlotte, CMPD Investigating

CHARLOTTE, NC — CMPD is investigating a shooting that happened Thursday night in north Charlotte. Officials say I-77 north is closed at W.T. Harris Boulevard.

The shooting happened around 8:15pm on I-77 northbound at W.T. Harris. CMPD says the shooting was self-inflicted, and the person was pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to police, the person tried to shoot themselves before coming to a complete stop and crashed into another vehicle.

Officials say it could be midnight before the area reopens. Drivers are advised to take Exit 16B and make a left on Statesville Road towards Huntersville to get back on I-77 NB or SB.
