CMPD Seeking Suspects After Officer Assaulted Trying To Stop Car Break-In

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The CMPD Is asking for assistance identifying two suspects wanted for attempting to break into a vehicle and assaulting a police officer in east Charlotte.

Police say on Sunday morning at about 1:13 a.m., an officer patrolling in the 3700 block of Piney Grove Road saw two suspects breaking into a car and drew his service weapon in an attempt to take them into custody.

The suspects refused to comply and began to flee, when one of the suspects turned and charged at the officer and attempted to take his gun.

During the struggle for the weapon, the officer received non life-threatening injuries.   Both suspects then fled and have not been located or identified.

The first suspect is described as a black male, approximately 19-years-old, 6 feet 2 inches, short hair and no facial hair.  He was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt.  It is likely he has injuries from the struggle with the officer.

The second suspect is described as a black male with short hair, last seen wearing a white t-shirt.
