Man Charged Following Fatal South Charlotte Two-Car Collision

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person has been charged following a two-car collision that killed a man in south Charlotte Saturday night.

At about 11:38 p.m. on Saturday, CMPD officers responded to a crash in the 2100 block of Runnymede Lane near Barclay Downs Drive.

Officers located a 2010 Ford Escapee and a 2006 Subaru that had collided on the road.

MEDIC responded to the scene and pronounced the driver of the 2010 Ford Escape, 31 -year-old Juan Octavio Reyes, dead at the scene.

A passenger in the 2010 Ford Escape was taken to Atrium Health with non life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the 2006 Subaru, Jimmy Gallarday, 39, and a passenger in his vehicle were also taken to Atrium Health with non life-threatening injuries.

An investigation determined that Gallarday was speeding and crossed the double yellow line before the left front of the 2006 Subaru hit the left front of the 2010 Ford Escape.

DWI Task Force officers charged Gallarday with Driving While Impaired While Revoked. Gallarday was also charged with Felony Death by Vehicle and two counts of Felony Serious Injury by Vehicle.
