Police Searching for Man Accused in South Charlotte Break-In Spree

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Police are searching for a man wanted in a South Charlotte break-in spree. He’s accused of targeting four homes in Dilworth, Myers Park, and SouthPark, all in less than eight hours.

“It’s pretty brazen,” says victim Niki Hardy.

She and her family awoke around 4:00 Saturday morning to the sound of someone kicking in their back door.

“It was dark but it was obviously somebody had made their way into the house,” Hardy says.

Hardy says the thief got away with her purse, but thankfully her wallet and cell phone weren’t inside.

“Our first thought was wondering whether he was still in the house. So we let the dogs out of where they sleep and they had a good sniff around but he’d long gone,” she says.

Investigators believe the Myers Park home was the second one targeted by the man, who was caught on surveillance cameras.

Police say the crime spree began in Dilworth on East Tremont Avenue around 3:30 a.m.

Then the suspect is accused of stealing a truck one street over on Springdale, before hitting the Hardy’s home on Maryland Avenue around 4:00 a.m.

He’s accused of finally targeting homes on Selwyn Avenue at 4:30 a.m. and Closeburn Road in SouthPark, which was reported around 11:00 a.m.

“Cars were in the driveway. They certainly knew we were there,” says another victim, who lives in Dilworth.

“We heard two loud crashes downstairs.. weren’t sure at first whether a limb had fallen on the house or what was happening,” he explains.

Investigators discovered the stolen truck near the scene of the final break-in.

The engine was running, but there was no sign of the suspect.

They found several items inside they think were stolen from the homes.
