Boone Man Leads Police On Car Chase

BOONE, N.C. — Deputies say Norman Charles Simmons, 55, failed to stop for police after speeding through an accident scene in his vehicle in the afternoon of July 29th.

Officials responding to the scene of the incident followed Simmons after noticing his reckless driving, but Simmons fled via the NC 105 Bypass, according to a news release. He then led officials on a chase through Valle Crucis on winding backroads before finally pulling his vehicle over on Watauga River Road.

Boone Police and the Watauga County Sheriff’s Department arrested Simmons on multiple charges, including felony fleeing to elude arrest, driving while impaired, driving with a revoked driver’s license, exceeding the posted speed limit, careless and reckless driving, stop sign violation and operating a motor vehicle with an open container of alcohol.

The Watagua County Magistrate set a $6,500 secured bond pending Simmons’ appearance in court on August 27th. The vehicle Simmons used to flee has been impounded on the grounds of his current Driving While Impaired Suspension.

Two other passengers in Simmons’ vehicle were not charged.
