Would You Smash A Window To Rescue Animals Inside A Hot Car?

CHARLOTTE, NC — Richard Hill thought he was doing the right thing when he saw two dogs locked inside a car and smashed the window with a hammer. Now, the Parma, Ohio native faces a misdemeanor criminal damage citation.

It happened in a Wal-Mart parking lot Saturday. One person who saw the two dogs called 911, and another went inside to get the vehicle owner to come outside.

Hill took a more direct approach and grabbed a hammer from his van.

Police told him he should have waited for them to arrive and that he had no right to break the car window.
