Tattoo Could Be Key To Catching Suspect Wanted For Sexual Assault In Uptown

CHARLOTTE, NC — Police are asking for help identifying a suspect wanted in connection to a sexual assault early Friday morning in Uptown.

Around 5:40am, CMPD says a 31-year-old woman was walking along N. Caldwell Street near E. 5th Street when a man forced her to a nearby location at gunpoint and sexually assaulted her.

The victim called 911 after the crime took place and described the suspect as a black male, mid-30’s, roughly 5 feet 6 inches, muscular, wearing thick framed glasses, a black hoodie, dark jeans and sneakers.

Investigators say the suspect also has a very distinctive tattoo on his forearm, which can be seen in the photo below.

CMPD says they have already taken the following steps to catch this suspect:

  • The CMPD has shifted staffing from both patrol and specialized units
  • The Central Division has committed a larger presence in the area that involves officers on foot, bicycles, cars, both plain clothes and uniform.
  • All staff has been briefed at roll-calls to actively be on the lookout for this suspect while on their respective assignments.
  • Information concerning this incident and suspect is being communicated with all divisions city-wide.
  • Sexual Assault detectives are reviewing evidence, conducting interviews and actively working tirelessly to identify and apprehend the suspect.
