MONROE, N.C. — Union County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating after a nine-year-old boy was robbed while selling lemonade Saturday afternoon.

At about 3 p.m., deputies responded to reports of an armed robbery near the entrance to St. John’s Forest.

Authorities say the boy was approached by a teenage black male wearing a camouflage hat and black shirt.  The suspect is alleged to have brandished a black handgun and pointed it at the boys stomach while demanding, before fleeing on foot.

During a search of the area, deputies found a trail in the woods and recovered a camouflage hat, a black colored BB handgun, and a stolen metal tin.

Deputies think the suspect left a bicycle on the trail and then walked to the scene of the robbery.
