CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has identified the man who died when his vehicle collided with a tractor trailer Sunday morning.
The CMPD says Richard Andrew Brandon Cox, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident in the 3700 block of The Plaza.
According to investigators, at about 1:03 a.m. Sunday morning, Cox’s Ford Mustang was traveling northeast on The Plaza when it struck the side of tractor trailer as it was making a wide right turn from Essex Street to travel southwest on The Plaza.
After the collision, the Ford Mustang traveled in to the yard of the residence at 3716 The Plaza where it struck a tree and a parked Nissan Altima.
The driver of the truck immediately stopped after the collision. Β He remained at the scene where he was screened for impairment andΒ interviewed by detectives.
No impairment was detected for the driver of the Tractor Trailer. Β Excessive speed and lack of seatbelt use were determined to be factors of the crash for Mr. Cox.
