Gaston Co. Man Faces Charges After Dog Found Malnourished, With Scars And Open Wounds

GASTONIA, NC — Police have charged a Gaston County man with animal cruelty after his dog was found malnourished and suffering from multiple wounds.

A black and white dog named “Nova” was rescued from her owner on Bethany Road on July 9 after investigators received reports of animal cruelty at the home. Officials say she was malnourished and suffered from wounds on her head and along her spine when they found her.

Animal Care and Enforcement Specialists say some of the wounds were scarred, while others were open down to the bone.

Nova’s owner, Chris Brandon Taylor has been charged with Felony Animal Cruelty in connection to “maiming injuries,” according to police, and Misdemeanor Animal Cruelty in connection to Taylor’s alleged failure to provide adequate food, water and shelter.

Officials say Nova is still undergoing rehabilitation, and will be taken to a rescue group for continued care once she is well enough to be transferred.
