CHARLOTTE, NC.– Two suspects charged with human trafficking at a Davidson nail salon were in court Friday. They are out of jail and have hired an attorney.
Investigators are calling this case highly sensitive and aren’t releasing much detail.
Here’s a startling statistic: North Carolina ranks number eight in the country in human trafficking cases, and Charlotte takes the number one spot for human trafficking in the state.
34-year-old Tien Luong and 36-year-old Nip Mihn Tsi were arrested at the Luxury Nail Salon on Jetton street. Warrants show they used tools to stab a person — causing severe bruising and scarring. Davidson Police began the investigation on Tuesday with the help of homeland security. Now, Luong and Tsi are facing multiple charges, including human trafficking.
Lily Pad Heaven is an organization that provides housing and support for survivors of human trafficking. Haley Solomon with the organization says traffickers seek out people who are vulnerable or who have a history of abuse.
“Through social media, they may get in contact with them through their school, at the mall. Even churches or other organizations that claim to offer help or employment, but are actually turning around and exploiting the people,” says Solomon.
