MATTHEWS, NC — The Charlotte Independence soccer team donated $25,000 Wednesday night to a York County teen who was paralyzed in an accident on Lake Wylie in June.

The family of 14-year-old McKenna Woodhead received the check on her behalf during halftime at the Independence home game against Louisville City.

According to her mother’s Twitter page, McKenna was released from the hospital early this morning after nearly two months in recovery.

McKenna was an avid soccer player before a jet ski accident on June 25th left her paralyzed from the chest down. Since then, the local soccer community has been rallying around McKenna and her family.

During a news conference on July 31, CLT Independence announced all proceeds from tonight’s ticket sales would be donated to McKenna to aid in her recovery.
