Lancaster Sheriff’s Office Asking For Assistance Identifying Man In Auto Theft Case

LANCASTER, S.C. — The Lancaster Sheriff’s Office is asking for assistance identifying a man who may have information regarding an automobile theft in Indian Land, South Carolina.

The theft occurred just after 9 p.m., on August 1st, 2018, at the Sam’s Mart store on Charlotte Highway in Indian Land, S.C.  Authorities say an employee left the key to a green 2005 Volkswagen Touraeg on the counter in the store.

At 8:08 p.m., security footage shows a male customer take the key from the counter, walk out of the store, and get in the driver’s side of a dark colored late model Range Rover parked at the gas pumps.  Shortly thereafter, a female exited the passenger side of the Range Rover and get in on the driver’s side.

The Range Rover drove away from the store but returned and backed into a parking space near the door at 8:40 p.m.  A passenger exited the Range Rover and got into the Volkswagen before driving off onto Charlotte Highway going north.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department found the Volkswagen on August 13th.

Authorities say the Range Rover matches the description of a Range Rover reported stolen, in July,  from the 100 block of West Woodlawn Road in Charlotte.

Anyone who recognizes or knows the man shown in the photographs, is familiar with the Range Rover, or knows anything about the theft of the Volkswagen is asked to contact the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office at 803-283-3388.
