CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man has died after he was ejected from his car in northeast Charlotte on Sunday.
Around 4:30 a.m., CMPD officers responded to the 3700 block of The Plaza near Sweetbriar Street where they saw an overturned 2008 Chevrolet Impala on fire.
The driver, 28-year-old Rashad Waller, was found ejected from the Impala and laying in the road. CMPD says the Impala was traveling eastbound on The Plaza and crossed the center line into the oncoming lanes as it exited the curve. The car then traveled off the road and struck a utility pole. That’s when the car overturned as it reentered the road.
Medic transported Waller to the hospital where he died. The two passengers who were also in the car, 28-year-old Brandon Coxton and 29-year-old Luther Little, were transported to Carolinas Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Speed is believed to be a contributing factor to the crash.
Witnesses and the passengers say a separate vehicle struck Waller after he was ejected from the Impala.
Police are still investigating. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has any information on the incident is asked to contact Detective Bush with the Major Crash Investigation Unit at 704-432-2169.
