Man Charged After Fatal Hit And Run In North Charlotte

Investigators say they have located and charged the driver accused of leaving the scene of a fatal hit and run in north Charlotte.

Detectives with CMPD charged Norris Richardson, 58, for his involvement in the fatal crash.

Police say Richardson voluntarily came forward to speak with detectives.  After being interviewed, Richardson was identified as the driver and placed under arrest for felony hit and run, according to a news release.

Richardson’s 1999 Ford Ranger was seized as evidence and processed by Crime Scene detectives.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are searching for the driver who hit and killed a 31-year-old man on Sunday.

Around 9:15 p.m., officers responded to a hit and run in the 3600 block of N. Graham Street just north of Toal Street where they located Matthew Midkiff dead on scene. His family has been notified of his death.

According to police, Midkiff was standing in the right lane when he was hit. The roadway has overhead street lights, but Midkiff was not wearing any reflective clothing at the time. The roadway also has no crosswalks or pedestrian signals.

The vehicle that struck Midkiff failed to stop and fled south on N. Graham Street. The suspect car is described as a 90s model green Ford Ranger with an extended cap with front damage.

Authorities say speed is a factor in the crash. It is unknown at this time if alcohol played a role.
