Students Of Rock Hill School Describe Terrifying Bus Ride Home
ROCK HILL, SC. — A Rock Hill substitute school bus driver not allowed to get behind the wheel, for now. Parents say they are furious after their young children came home with whiplash and bruises from a bus ride last week. Monday, the school district allowed parents to see the bus ride on video.
The bus ride happened last Tuesday. Children describe the driver hitting curbs, slamming on the breaks and rolling through stops. Two of Emilie George’s children were on the bus.
“The first thing that they told me was the bus driver almost killed us,” says George.
So were Michelle Kluttz’s two sons. She says their injuries were so bad, she took them to the hospital.
“He bit down on his lip, so he has a contusion there and severe whiplash,” says Kluttz.
Parents were invited to individually view video of that bus ride Monday. Michelle did not watch the entire two and a half hour video, but says she’s not happy with the 15 minutes she did see.
“The parts of the video I seen, the kids just going forward, it does, it just breaks your heart.”
Mychal Frost, a spokesperson for Rock Hill Schools says the bus driver was a substitute and not familiar with the routes. He is a long-time activity bus driver. That driver is not working right now until the situation is fully resolved.
Frost also says the bus video does not corroborate the children’s story, and other parents changed their opinions after watching the video Monday.
WCCB put in a freedom of information request to see the video from that bus ride, but was told no citing federal privacy regulations.
