ROCK HILL, SC — Police say no charges will be filed at this time after a two-year-old died Sunday afternoon.
The father of 2-year-old Lamartray Adams, Jr. was holding the toddler as officers arrived at an apartment complex on Glendarden Drive around 4:40pm. Officials say the father rushed to officers for help, but Adams did not respond to CPR efforts.
Adams was taken by EMS to Piedmont Medical Center and pronounced dead a short time later.
At this time, investigators say Adams’ death was the result of a “terrible accident.”
According to reports, Adams was inside the family’s home Sunday afternoon when he managed to open the front door and go outside. The toddler reportedly made his way to the family’s vehicle and accidentally locked himself inside.
Adams’ father and neighbors went looking for him when they realized he was missing, according to investigators, and found him inside the vehicle.
Officials say there is no indication that the child was left in the vehicle by the father.
Toxicology results are still pending, investigators say, but at this time no charges will be filed in relation to Adams’ death.
