ALEXANDER COUNTY, NC — A 34-year-old man has been charged with 60 sex crimes involving a child.
Benjamin Gilreath was initially arrested on one count of Felony Statutory Rape of a Child by an Adult after a report was filed Tuesday with investigators.
On Wednesday, officials say additional information was gathered that resulted in 19 additional charges of Felony Statutory Rape of a Child by an Adult, 20 counts of First Degree Statutory Sex Offense, and 20 counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child.
Gilreath, of the Hiddenite Community, has now been placed under a total bond of $5.5 million.
Investigators have not released any information on the number of victims, age, or relationship. The investigation is ongoing.
