EXCLUSIVE: Cleveland County Deputy Shot In Line Of Duty Sits Down With WCCB

CHARLOTTE, NC. — From the tarmac, President Trump visiting with local heroes. Caldwell County Deputy Jordan Sherrill was shot during a traffic stop, and Cleveland County Deputy Tim Sims was shot by a wanted man. Sims spoke exclusively with WCCB after the visit.

It’s been a long road to recovery for Deputy Sims, but he says he’s feeling good.

Today, the Sims family has so much to celebrate.

“Faith, friends and family. That’s what we live for, you know, and I’ve got a really good family, I’ve got really good friends and faith is always a wonderful thing,” says Deputy Sims.

But on August 14th, their worst nightmare.

“My sister-in-law called me and told me what happened, and I jumped in the car and went straight to the emergency room as fast as possible,” says the Deputy’s wife Cassidy Sims.

Deputy Sims was shot in the face and thigh at KM Auto broker along Highway 74 around 10:30 pm, after responding to a call about a suspicious person who was wanted on probation violations.

After days in the hospital, surrounded by friends and family, Sims making a full recovery. A strength, he says he found from his wife and twin babies on the way.

“My wife has got two babies in her belly, so you know that’s what I was thinking about was my babies and my wife,” says Deputy Sims.

Friday, Sims met President Trump at Charlotte-Douglas Airport, even joking around with him. Something Sims says he’ll never forget.

“He told me that I didn’t look like I’d been shot in the face, and he wanted to meet my doctor because they were doing a fantastic job.”

Meanwhile, the future looking bright for the Cleveland County Deputy.

“Feeling pretty good. Got a little bit of recovery to do with my leg with my balance, but I’ll be back to work as soon as possible.”
