Detectives with CMPD say they have charged 34-year-old Thomas McCray with the murder of 35-year-old Shikeither Smith.
McCray has been charged with first degree murder. Detectives say they determined that Smith and McCray were in a long-term relationship. The investigation is ongoing.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A woman was found dead inside a home in north Charlotte Wednesday morning.
Officers with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department were called around 6:48 a.m. to a home on Newcastle Street, just south of Lasalle Street where they found a woman who was shot to death.
The woman’s identity will be released once her family has been notified.
Officers are currently questioning the woman’s boyfriend who was on scene at the time of the shooting. The homicide is under investigation.
