Investigators Seek Answers After Man Shoots Two People, Then Himself At York County Gas Station

YORK, SC — Three men shot at a busy York County gas station, in broad daylight. Police say 25-year-old Darryl Ray Hinson Jr., of Rock Hill, is accused of shooting two men in the parking lot of Exxon Mobile On The Run Thursday, before turning the gun on himself. Police want to know why.

“It went Bam, Bam, Bam hesitation and then the last shot, bam,” says Michael Barrister. He was hanging out with friends Thursday afternoon across the street from the On The Run gas station at the intersection of Highway 5 and Highway 161, when he heard gunshots.

“There were police racing up and down the street going in every direction,” says Barrister.

York Police say after an interaction, Hinson pulled out a shotgun and fired at least two shots at a 25-year-old man and a 40-year-old man. One victim was shot in the shoulder, the other in the stomach.

“After he shot the two victims, he walked out into the parking lot and shot himself, we have several witnesses because it’s a very busy area,” says Trent Faris with the York County Sheriff’s office.

Witnesses say Hinson shot himself in the face and all three men were alive when they were taken to the hospital. Their condition is still unknown.
