MARSHVILLE, NC — Three 12-year-old students are facing felony charges after Union County deputies say they brought weapons, including two loaded handguns to school.
On Wednesday, a School Resource Officer at East Union Middle School seized a .380 caliber handgun and metallic knuckles from one male student after he was reportedly seen showing the gun to other children.
While trying to determine the source of the gun, investigators say they identified two additional students involved in the crime.
According to reports, one student brought two loaded handguns to school in order to trade one, the .380, for a pair of metallic knuckles. When administrators caught the first suspect, the other student reportedly gave the second gun, a loaded 9mm, to another student to hold.
Detectives say that gun was located Thursday at the student’s home.
All three student’s now face felony charges related to the incident.
One student is charged with Felony Possession of a Firearm on Educational Property, Misdemeanor Possession of a Weapon on Educational Property (metallic knuckles), and Misdemeanor Possessing a Handgun as a Minor.
Another student is charged with two counts Felony Possession of a Firearm on Educational Property, Misdemeanor Possession of a Weapon on Educational Property (metallic knuckles), and two counts Misdemeanor Possessing a Handgun as a Minor.
The third student is charged with Felony Possession of a Firearm on Educational Property and Misdemeanor Possessing a Handgun as a Minor.
Investigators say there is no evidence that any student was ever threatened.
Because the suspect is a minor, his name is not being released.
