CMPD Makes Arrest In Cold Case Double Homicide

CHARLOTTE, NC — Police have charged a suspect in connection to the 2009 double homicide involving a woman and her baby.

At a news conference Friday afternoon, police announced the arrest of 45-year-old Royce Mitchell for the September 2009 murders of Tiffany and Aaliyah Wright.

Shortly before 6am on Monday, September 14, 2009, investigators say Tiffany Wright, then 16, was waiting at a bus stop on Mallard Creek Road when she was shot. Wright was reportedly found lying in the street and transported to CMC Main where she died a short time later.

Officials say Wright was 32 weeks pregnant at the time of the shooting. The baby was delivered, but also died six days later on September 20.

Mitchell is currently charged with two counts of First Degree Murder.
