WILMINGTON, NC — The University of North Carolina Wilmington is being evacuated in preparation for Hurricane Florence’s arrival later this week.
The university has issued a mandatory evacuation, effective 8am Tuesday, September 11. Classes have already been canceled following a voluntary evacuation that was issued Monday at 12pm.
School officials say all university-sponsored events and athletics, including Fall Family and Alumni Weekend have now been cancelled through the weekend.
The university says they are working closely with state emergency management officials and the National Weather Service to monitor Florence’s approach.
Students are asked to continue monitoring their UNCW emails, as well as the UNCW website and social media pages for updates. The weather hotline can also be reached at 888-657-5751, but officials say it will contain information already distributed across the prior platforms.
