Major Airlines Offer Fee Waivers For Travelers Impacted By Hurricane Florence

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Major airlines are offering change fee waivers for travelers impacted by Hurricane Florence.

Hurricane Florence strengthened to a category 4 hurricane and is on track to hit the US East Coast this week.

Delta, American, United and Southwest are among the airlines that will waive change fees or fare differences.

  • Bought your ticket by September 10, 2018
  • Are scheduled to travel September 10 – 16, 2018
  • Can travel September 10 – 19, 2018
  • Change your origin or destination city to another city affected by this alert or these airports:
    Baltimore, Maryland (BWI); Washington Reagan, Washington D.C. (DCA); Washington Dulles, Washington D.C. (IAD)
  • Rebook in the same cabin or pay the difference

Flight changes:
  • The change fee and any difference in fare will be waived for new United flights departing between September 10, 2018, and September 16, 2018, as long as travel is rescheduled in the originally ticketed cabin (any fare class) and between the same cities as originally ticketed.
  • For wholly rescheduled travel departing after September 20, 2018, or for a change in departure or destination city, the change fee will be waived, but a difference in fare may apply. Rescheduled travel must be completed within one year from the date when the ticket was issued.

Waived fees for bags and in-cabin pets

  • We’re waiving fees for bags and in-cabin pets for United flights to/from the listed cities, from September 10, 2018, through September 16, 2018. If you’ve already paid a fee, we’ll be automatically issuing you a refund.

DELTA

RESCHEDULING FLIGHTS

If you wish to cancel your trip as a result of a flight cancellation or significant delay (90 minutes or more), you are entitled to a refund for the unused portion of your ticket. Even if your flight is not canceled, you may make a one-time change to your ticket without fee if you are scheduled to travel to, from, or through the following destination(s) on Delta, Delta Connection®, or Delta-coded flights during the specified time periods listed below.

When rescheduled travel occurs beyond September 20, 2018, the change fee will be waived. However, a difference in fare may apply. Final travel must be completed by end of ticket validity, one year from date of original issue. If travel is not able to be rescheduled within these guidelines, customers may cancel their reservation and apply any unused value of the ticket toward the purchase of a new ticket for a period of one year from the original ticket issuance. Applicable change fee and fare difference will apply for new travel dates. Final travel must be completed by end of ticket validity.

RESTRICTIONS ON UNACCOMPANIED MINOR TRAVEL TO SELECT CITIES

Inbound unaccompanied minor travel is prohibited for all flights September 12 – September 17 TO and THROUGH the cities below. Unaccompanied minor travel FROM the cities below is still permitted.

TEMPORARY BAGGAGE AND PET IN CABIN FEE WAIVER

For a limited time, when you check in at the airport, Delta is waiving all baggage and pet in cabin fees for travel to and from the cities below during the dates noted. Please continue to check this page for the most up-to-date waiver information before you travel.

In addition to the waiving of the pet in cabin fees, Delta is temporarily lifting the per-flight caps on the number of pets allowed in the cabin in and out of the cities below, on the dates below. However, for their safety and the safety of other passengers, other transport requirements (must be able to fit comfortably in a carrier that fits under the seat in front of them and are not permitted to roam about the cabin) must still be met.

Due to the potential impact from Hurricane Florence, and to provide our Customers additional flexibility, ticketed Passengers traveling to/from the cities listed below may change their origin or destination to Atlanta (ATL) or Jacksonville (JAX) without paying any additional charge, if their original dates of travel are between Monday, September 10 through Monday, September 17.
