When It Comes To Hurricane Florence, Are You Scared Or Skeptical?
CHARLOTTE, NC — When hurricanes take aim, do you take warnings seriously or take a wait and see approach instead?
Here are four reasons that make Hurricane Florence extremely dangerous.
- It’s brute force. Florence went from a cat two to a cat four in a few hours on Monday, and it’s expected to get stronger as it gets closer to the Carolinas.
- The water. On the coast, this storm is expected to have a storm surge in the 20 foot range.
- It could cause massive inland flooding. The storm is forecasting to slow down after landfall, and the longer a hurricane hovers, the more rain it dumps in the same place. Some areas could see 20 inches of rain. Much of the Carolinas are already saturated from rainfall.
- It’s barreling toward people not used to big hurricanes. If the latest forecast holds, Florence will strike farther north on the east coast than any other cat four storm in history.
Despite all of that, there are still people on the Carolina coasts who are choosing to stay put.
