CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Officer is being hailed as a hero for saving a man’s life after he overdosed.
The CMPD says at about 9:23 a.m., on September 13th, 2018, Officer Rita Boric responded to reports of an unconscious man who was turning purple in the parking lot of O’Reilly’s Auto Parts located at 1515 Galleria Boulevard.
The person who called 911 said they suspected the man had overdosed on an unknown narcotic.
According to the CMPD, the man was lying breathless, on his back, so Officer Boric immediately administered CPR.Β Β After 30 to 40 chest compressions, Officer Boric was able to detect a pulse and the man began labored breathing.
Charlotte Fire and Medic arrived shortly thereafter and were able to continue treatment, including administering Narcan.
The man’s condition was stabilized and he was transported to Novant Matthews.
The CMPD credits Officer Boric’s quick thinking and reliance on her training for saving the man’s life.
