Keep Your Car Safe And Damage-Free During Hurricane Florence
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Queen City and surrounding areas will be facing the possibility of Β high winds, heavy rains and possibly flooding from Hurricane Florence. The aftermath: thousands of cars with damage.
Over 1 million vehicles were damaged or destroyed by hurricanes Irma and Harvey at a cost of over $100 billion.
Here are some tips and ways to keep your precious car safe during hurricane Florence.
- Keep your insurance card and vehicle registration with you.Β If you have copies in your glove box, put them in a water tight zip lock bag.
- Remove all personal belongings form your car.Β Personal items inside your vehicle are NOT covered by insurance if they are damaged in a flood or storm. (Bonus Tip:Β review your insurance policies to understand your coverage)
- Fill your gas tank.Β You want a full tank of gas in case you need to evacuate the area.Β Hurricanes often cause gas shortages (and higher prices), so be sure you are stocked up on fuel.Β You can also use your car to charge your cell phone if your home loses power.
- Take pictures of your vehicle(s) BEFORE the storm to document any damage resulting directly from the hurricane.
- Park your car in a safe location.Β If you donβt have a garage, try to park your vehicle in a parking deck at your office, at a neighborβs house or up against the side of a building for protection.Β Donβt park under a tree!
